Introduction
There are 60 primary schools in Hounslow, 9 of which are Voluntary Aided including 7 Roman Catholic schools and 2 Church of England schools. Hounslow's primary sector provides continuity from early years to transfer to secondary education. Thirty schools are all through primary and on 15 sites there are separate, but closely linked, schools for Early Years/Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2.
All primary schools follow the National Literacy and Numeracy Strategies. In addition all seek to ensure that pupils receive a broad and balanced education.
In the early years Hounslow offers all children part time nursery (3/4 years) and full time reception (4/5 years). There are qualified teachers and nursery nurses in every early years class. Nurseries are housed in purpose-built accommodation and are fully resourced especially for our youngest children. Early years education works towards enabling all pupils to achieve the learning outcomes set out by the government. Children may attend from September following their third birthday if there are places available. Attendance at nursery classes is on a part-time basis, either mornings or afternoons dependent on the organisation of the individual school. For a few children where there are exceptional circumstances, full-time nursery attendance may be arranged at the Headteacher's discretion.
All primary schools can admit children to the Reception Year group of the infant department on a full time basis in the September following their fourth birthday. Children transfer from the infant to junior stage of their primary education as they enter Year 3 in the September following their seventh birthday.
